Weddings
Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
Genesis 2:24
It is the policy of the church to rent the building or facilities to nonmembers who accept the policies and meet the guidelines set by the church. It is our intent to many marry those who mean to keep their marriage in the church. The church should not be used and then forgotten after the wedding. Those who many in the church ought to have made a commitment to the church and to their Lord for the rest of their lives, and this includes the rearing of their children in the church, should they be blessed with such.
Detailed guidelines for florists, photographers, receptions, and caterers are outlined in the church's Wedding Policy booklet, and will be explained and enforced by the Wedding Hostess.
The Wedding Hostess will serve as coordinator between the church and the wedding party for all weddings involving guests. The Hostess will be present for the rehearsal, during florist and caterer preparations, and before and after the 1\"wedding. For an additional fee, the Wedding Hostess will also direct the wedding.
Premarital Counseling is required to all couples who will be married at First Cumberland. and will be provided by the Senior Minister or by the minister in charge of the ceremony.
A couple may request that a minister not on the staff of First Cumberland be permitted to conduct the wedding ceremony. However, the Senior Minister will hear such requests on an individual basis, and will make decisions according to his best judgment.
Nonmembers are generally not allowed to hold receptions at the church. However, extenuating circumstances, which might warrant allowing nonmember receptions, will be evaluated on an individual basis. Nonmembers must agree to abide by the church's reception policy.
The church organist will play for all weddings unless a rare exception is granted.
All music that has been approved by the church organist or a minister of First Cumberland may be used. No pre-recorded music of any kind is allowed .
Half facilities use fee must be paid before the wedding is placed on the church calendar. Fees for use of church facilities and staff must be paid in full 30 days prior to the wedding rehearsal.
Scheduling of church events takes priority over weddings for nonmembers; therefore, nonmembers may not reserve a scheduled date earlier than nine months in advance. Nonmembers may not schedule a wedding on a Sunday. Saturday evening weddings may not be scheduled after 6:00 pm. and no weddings may be scheduled during Advent.
To schedule a wedding, call the church office. Your name will be forwarded to a wedding hostess, who will check the church calendar and contact you.
